Sophie-Beth is a European patent attorney. She studied for her PhD as part of the prestigious Child Health Research Appeal Trust programme at the UCL Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Sophie-Beth's PhD was focused on the mechanisms responsible for the central folate deficiency associated with mitochondrial diseases. During her PhD, Sophie-Beth presented her work at a number of national and international conferences and published a first author paper in Neurochemistry International. Prior to her PhD, Sophie-Beth graduated from the University of Bath with a first class Undergraduate Master's degree in Pharmacology, which included a year-long industrial work placement at one of the leading biopharmaceutical companies, UCB.
As a European patent attorney, Sophie-Beth’s work involves drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences fields. She has a broad range of experience in a number of scientific areas, including antibodies and biologics, immunology, stem cell therapeutics, cancer, inflammation, biomarkers, nucleic acid testing, microbiology, diagnostics, vaccines and medical devices.
Sophie-Beth's practical experience includes drafting, filing and prosecuting GB, EP, international (PCT) and foreign patent applications; patent searching; monitoring third party patent applications; and providing infringement, patentability and freedom to operate opinions.
