Tim, who is now a member of J A Kemp’s Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals Group, has also worked in the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Group. With over 25 years’ professional experience, his practice is predominantly in the chemical area with patent work across a wide range of technologies. This includes pharmaceutical subject-matter such as small molecule and peptide work as well as general organic and inorganic chemistry and a wide range of polymers. He also has experience in the biotech area, particularly of cases on novel proteins, expression systems and cell culture.
Tim has considerable experience in securing, defending and opposing patents before the European Patent Office (EPO) as well as in prosecuting patent applications in the UK Intellectual Property Office and around the world. He has represented major clients at oral proceedings before the EPO at all levels on many occasions including before the Boards of Appeal. He was the representative acting for the applicant before the Enlarged Board of Appeal on case G2/06 relating to the patentability of human embryonic stem cells.
Major clients are located in the UK, USA and Japan. He also acts for small UK companies.
Tim is a long-term resident of the Cambridge area and now splits his time between the London and Cambridge offices.
Tim joined J A Kemp in 1988 and became a partner in 1998.
