Benjamin Bell

Trainee Patent Attorney

Ben studied for his undergraduate MEng degree at Imperial College London, in the department of Materials Science and Engineering. During his studies he was one of two students selected to spend a summer at the ANSTO nuclear research centre in Sydney, Australia working on a project to develop novel ceramics as a method of nuclear waste immobilisation for long term geological disposal. He studied for his PhD at the Centre for Nuclear Engineering, which is part of the Materials Science and Engineering department of Imperial College London. His PhD was part of the Westinghouse Electric Company led MUZIC-2 research programme; a collaboration between PhD students, their supervisors and various industrial partners. The aim of the collaboration was to develop improved nuclear fuel cladding alloys to allow increased in-reactor lifetime of nuclear fuels, thereby increasing the energy production and reducing the waste output. Following this, Ben spent eight months as a post-doctoral researcher at Imperial.

Education – MEng Materials Science with Nuclear Engineering (Imperial College London), PhD Materials Science – Simulation of nuclear fuel cladding materials for use in reactors (Imperial College London)
